The “Roots” of the Project

We saprophytic mushrooms love to grow on old hardwood logs, well hidden in the forest. But if treated with care, life indoors can be just as fascinating.
Originating from various parts of the world, we have made our home at Moulin Bornu in Pompaples, in a former sawmill transformed into a small laboratory.
Our cultivator, J.-C. Floyd Sarria, is a seasoned science adventurer. Curious about life in all its forms, he first spent three years in the field studying lynx populations, amphibian migrations, and the ecology of various insects. He then turned to molecular and cellular biology, histology, and biochemistry within the field of neuroscience. Between the Lausanne Medical School and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, he eventually specialized in microscopy and scientific image processing, founding and designing an imaging center at this engineering school (biop.epfl.ch).
A ten-year break from biology, marked by travels in China and exciting projects, led him out of his academic comfort zone and deep into the realms of internet professions and various aspects of human nature (tattootravelers.com).
With all these experiences behind him, it was only natural that fungal cultivation became an exciting new project: aesthetics, genetics, ecology, connectivity, gastronomy, medicine, human relationships… everything he wishes to share through us.
