Visits and Workshops
But how does a mushroom grow?
Although mushroom cultivation may seem intimidating and complicated, we are here to make it exciting and accessible for everyone!
Lab Visit
Since the very first day of construction in September 2021, a few curious people would come by to see the progress of the work, which lasted nearly 8 months, then villagers, and more and more mushroom enthusiasts from all over French-speaking Switzerland.
Our small workshop/laboratory fits into 100 m² in an idyllic setting behind the Moulin Bornu. Our doors are always open to you, because our mission is to show you how mushrooms can live and develop indoors, and that it is entirely possible to do this at home with a bit of care and minimal equipment.
We will explain the process of cultivating our mushrooms and give you a tour of our “white” room, incubation room, and fruiting room.
Since 2024, we ask for 15 CHF per person for this visit, as our time has become increasingly precious. Visits are done in small groups of up to three people, to avoid too many drafts in the lab, and we will provide you with slippers. Please also come with clean clothes and hair to minimize the introduction of contaminants.
Outside, a large table under a pavilion awaits us for a friendly moment.

Workshops
AT THE “JARDIN SAUVAGE” IN L’ABERGEMENT
Following the kind invitation of Aino Adriaens from the “Jardin Sauvage,” we are delighted to host our garden mushroom cultivation workshops each year at her beautiful place in L’Abergement, above Orbe. This garden is a true gem — even as a biologist, I’ve never seen a spot so enchanting.
During these workshops, we’ll prepare logs inoculated with shiitake or wild oyster mushroom mycelium, depending on your preferences. We’ll also learn how to prepare straw to create an oyster mushroom bale that you can grow in your own apartment. And for a creative twist, we’ll experiment with some unusual substrates.
With a pinch of theory, lively discussions, and a friendly atmosphere, we’re sure to have a fantastic time, whatever the weather.
Workshop dates 2026:
Sunday, April 19, 2026 — Registration open
Sunday, July 5, 2026 — Registration open
Registrations are made directly on the Jardin Sauvage website:
