Visits and Workshops

But how does a mushroom grow?

Although mushroom cultivation may seem intimidating and complicated, we are here to make it exciting and accessible for everyone!

Lab Visit

Since the very first day of construction in September 2021, a few curious people would come by to see the progress of the work, which lasted nearly 8 months, then villagers, and more and more mushroom enthusiasts from all over French-speaking Switzerland.

Our small workshop/laboratory fits into 100 m² in an idyllic setting behind the Moulin Bornu. Our doors are always open to you, because our mission is to show you how mushrooms can live and develop indoors, and that it is entirely possible to do this at home with a bit of care and minimal equipment.

We will explain the process of cultivating our mushrooms and give you a tour of our “white” room, incubation room, and fruiting room.

Since 2024, we ask for 15 CHF per person for this visit, as our time has become increasingly precious. Visits are done in small groups of up to three people, to avoid too many drafts in the lab, and we will provide you with slippers. Please also come with clean clothes and hair to minimize the introduction of contaminants.
Outside, a large table under a pavilion awaits us for a friendly moment.

Workshops

Following the suggestion of Aino from “Le Jardin Sauvage”, we are delighted to offer our first “garden mushroom cultivation” workshops at her place in L’Abergement, near Orbe. This garden is a real gem, and even as a biologist, I have never seen such an enchanting place.

During these workshops, we will prepare logs inoculated with shiitake, oyster, or reishi mycelium, according to your preferences. We will also learn how to prepare straw to create an oyster mushroom bale that you can grow in your bathroom. And to add a touch of originality, we will try to grow mushrooms on unusual substrates.

With a bit of theory, passionate discussions, and a friendly atmosphere, we will have a great time, whatever the weather.

Registration is done directly on the Jardin Sauvage website:

Workshop dates:

Sunday, May 11: Full

Sunday, July 6: One or two spots still available (as of March 25, 2025)

If you missed these sessions, don’t hesitate to send me an email at: hello@floydfungi.ch
I would be happy to organize a new workshop for the summer or autumn.
