Dive into the Heart of the Craft, "FOR FUN"!
While our "ready-to-grow" kits are perfect for an immediate harvest, this DIY Kit (Do It Yourself) is designed for curious minds and enthusiasts who want to understand how the magic happens.
Make your own production blocks from scratch using the exact same professional raw materials we use in our lab in Pompaples.
What's in your DIY Kit
We've calculated the perfect proportions so you can create two 2.5 kg fruiting blocks.
- The Substrate: 2 bags of beech sawdust (from the Vaud Jura) and 1 bag of organic straw (from Juriens), offering a perfect balance between nutrition (sawdust) and aeration (straw) for mycelial growth.
- The Spawn (1 kg): A large bag of pure, ultra-fresh grain spawn (G3). Choose the oyster mushroom variety you want (Grey, Brown, White, Yellow, or Pink). It is made to order and requires a 3-week lead time between production and incubation.
- The Grow Bags (x2): Two Unicorn Type 3 bags. These are the global gold standard in mycology. Their "T" filter (0.22 microns) lets the mushroom breathe while blocking out external bacteria and molds.
- The Closure: 2 heavy-duty rubber bands to seal your bags after inoculation.
Quick Success Guide: Your 4 Steps as a Mushroom Grower
- Pasteurization & Hydration: Mix your straw and sawdust in an old pillowcase, then heat everything in 75°C water – to pasteurize – in a large pot to clear the substrate of competing organisms. Let it cool down completely.
- Inoculation (The Mixing): In a very clean environment, crumble your kilo of grain spawn and mix it thoroughly with your wet substrate. Distribute the mix into the 2 Unicorn bags and seal them with the rubber bands.
- Incubation: Place your bags in a dark, room-temperature spot (approx. 20-24°C). Over 2 to 4 weeks, watch the mycelium devour the substrate until the blocks turn entirely white.
- Fruiting: Once the blocks are fully colonized, cut an X-shaped slit on the side of the bag, mist with a little water daily, and admire the growth of your beautiful oyster mushroom clusters!
